E109 The Hidden Hardships of Living Gluten-Free (Stop the Judgement)

    02/06/2026 | 14 min
There was a lot of judgment thrown around last month as we celebrated Celiac Awareness Month.

WE know that living gluten-free isn’t made-up. It isn’t a trend. It isn’t a fad. And, it certainly isn’t always “easy.”

In today’s heartfelt episode, I’m opening up about the judgment, negativity, and misinformation that flooded social media during Celiac Awareness Month, and why it deeply affected the gluten-free community.

If you’ve ever felt misunderstood, left out, judged, overwhelmed, or exhausted by all the planning that comes with living gluten-free, this episode is for you.

People who don’t live this lifestyle often have no idea what goes into staying safe and healthy EVERY SINGLE DAY.

In this episode, we’re talking about:

Why Celiac Disease is a serious autoimmune disease — not a choice

The emotional and mental load of living gluten-free

Social anxiety, exclusion, and judgment within relationships and friendships

The hidden stress of grocery shopping, label reading, and cross-contamination

Why Celiac Disease changes a spontaneous lifestyle

The frustration of hearing people dismiss or mock gluten-free living

How to stop listening to negativity and start building confidence in your gluten-free life

This episode is also a reminder that while living gluten-free comes with real hardships and sacrifices… it is still possible to build a healthy, joyful, and fulfilling life.

    You are not “too much.”
    You are not difficult.
    You are protecting your health.

    And that matters.

If this episode encourages you, helps you feel seen, or reminds you that you’re not alone on this journey, please share this episode with another gluten-free friend and leave a review for the podcast so more people find us.

    Most importantly:

    Keep advocating.
    Keep educating.
Keep showing up for yourself and your health.

Because gluten-free living is real  . . . and so are you.

E107 Speaking Up Gluten-Free: How to Advocate with Confidence (Part 2)

    19/05/2026 | 19 min
When starting my gluten-free life, I had a hard time speaking up for what I needed when I was out at restaurants.

It was very uncomfortable, worrying I was being “too much” and bothering the waitstaff, especially when out with people I didn’t know well.

How do you feel about speaking up for your gluten-free needs?

Does it make you feel uncomfortable?

It is understandable to worry about being judged or inconveniencing anyone.

But, I want you to know that advocating for yourself is a very important skill you can and need to build in your gluten-free life.

Last week on the podcast, I shared why it may be hard to speak up and what happens when we do advocate for our GF needs. (link below)

This week, we are continuing the conversation and diving into practical ways to speak up with confidence in everyday situations.

Living gluten-free isn’t about being demanding. It’s about protecting your health and creating a life where you can truly thrive.

I’m sharing real-life examples and practical strategies for advocating in restaurants, social settings, workplaces, and schools, while also helping your children learn to advocate for themselves as they grow.

This episode will help you stop putting off your needs and start recognizing that your health matters.

    In This Episode, We Discuss:

Why advocating for yourself gluten-free is a skill you can learn

Ways to navigate dinners at friends’ homes and social events

Speaking up at work events, catered lunches, and office meetings

How to communicate with schools, teachers, and staff to protect gluten-free children

Helping children learn confidence in advocating for themselves

Why asking for what you need is not being “too much”

How speaking up helps educate the world about celiac disease and gluten-free living

If this episode encourages you, share it with another gluten-free friend who needs help learning how to speak up with confidence.

And come join our gluten-free community to continue the conversation, because the more we support one another, the stronger and more confident we become in living gluten-free.

What’s one way you are learning to advocate for yourself or your family?

    12/05/2026 | 14 min
Are you staying quiet about your gluten-free needs… even when you know you probably shouldn’t?

Do you find yourself avoiding asking questions so you don’t feel like a burden?

Do you ever downplay Celiac Disease so you don’t make others uncomfortable?

Keeping quiet can actually cost you more than you think!

The truth is that staying silent doesn’t keep the peace . . . it often leads to getting sick, feeling anxious, and struggling more than you need to.

This is why it is so important to advocate for your GF needs, which is exactly what we are talking about in today’s podcast episode.

When I first went gluten-free, I found it quite hard. It took me a bit to gain the courage and confidence to advocate for staying safe and healthy.

You may be feeling this as well, which is why it’s so important to discuss.

When we don’t speak up, we don’t get what we need!

🎧 In This Episode, You’ll Learn:

The real reasons you’re not speaking up about your gluten-free needs

How being “easygoing” can actually put your health at risk

What happens when you start advocating for yourself (this is powerful)

Why advocating builds confidence, safety, and trust in your daily life

How your actions influence how others respect your celiac disease

We are managing a medical necessity, trying to stay safe and healthy all day long to protect our future.

What has been holding you back? What can you do about that now?
