Today, I l have a conversation with LuAn, who speaks to me about breastfeeding. Also a really lovely connection between the two of us is that we are both of Haitian Lineage.LuAn’s own birth, a traumatic cesarean with her son, really sparked the fire for her to breastfeed him and was the catalyst that ignited her to deep dive into the necessities, advantages and passion for breastfeeding.LuAn is apart of the Radical Moms Union that goes against predatory formula companies that target the delicate breastfeeding relationship of the mother-baby dyad. Through her own journey of breastfeeding and learning about the benefits of this for her child, LuAn has made it a big part of her life to share this knowledge, especially to women of color and black women who have an even harder time being supported in creating the breastfeeding relationships with their children.Listen to this wonderful informative talk that I have with LuAn about the most natural and normal feeding experience a mother can have with her child. ✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: [email protected]Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your Host:FOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, LuAnInstagram: @Luan.unboubd -Resources:Radical Moms Union: @Radical_Moms_Union https://www.radicalmomsunion.org/

I’m speaking with Jenn today and her story is a brave journey of re-establishing her identity from the way she previous led it, more liberated and free to holding commitment for what her future was asking for.Jenn had to go through the process of figuring out who the father of her baby was and dealing with big feelings of frustrations and anger at the men who potentially got her pregnant.Later, after being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder at 8 months pregnant, Jenn was able to find a sense of relief and a deeper understanding for how she was previous living her life. When the time to birth her baby was coming near, Jenn was dealing with a lot of instability and had to move her birth plans multiple times until it was all revealed in the end.Jenn, is a first time mother who made the very courageous choice to birth her baby free of the medical system even when it seemed like everything was going against her and I’m so proud of Jenn for speaking her story to me. ✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: [email protected]Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, JennDoula Instagram: @emancipatedbirth Personal Instagram: @gomamajenn

57. I Knew I Could Do it!
27/11/2025 | 1 h 37 min
This is a beautiful conversation that I have with Aaliyah. She speaks to me about how she bonded very deeply with her aunts baby and how she always knew that motherhood was in her future. When becoming pregnant with her first, Aaliyah chose to have hospital Midwifery care, but once she was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes (GD) she was soon switched to Obstetric care.Leading up to Aaliyah’s first birth experience she was feeling very forced to have an induction at 39 weeks, but held her ground until 41 weeks. When she did agree to the induction, it took 4 days for her baby to finally emerge and she was pressured into an unnecessary epidural 2 hours before her baby was born.Aaliyah’s second pregnancy was with twins! and she chose once again, to also seek support of medical providers like her first. And to my surprise, Aaliyah birthed both of her babies vaginally in the hospital setting, which is quite unheard of in most twin births. For her third pregnancy and birth, Aaliyah chose a birthing centre, which led to trauma and a very difficult postpartum experience that included a mental health crisis. Then finally with her fifth baby, Aaliyah made the choice to birth this baby with only family in attendance. This is a story of a woman’s trust and courage in herself to make the best decisions for herself and her children and the evolution that she went on to get there.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: [email protected]Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨

56. Preserving Traditional Postpartum Care
20/11/2025 | 1 h 3 min
This is a very special and important conversation with Hadhee Jah who is one of the only Ayurvedic Postpartum Doulas and Traditional Birthkeepers in and from the Maldives.Hadhee Jah’s first birth experience was truly beautiful, but without having the knowledge of how to care for herself and be cared for in postpartum, she went into a really dark space in this time. Her second postpartum time was also really hard, even though she was very well supported. Then, following Hadhee Jah’s second birth, this is when she started learning about Ayurvedic Postpartum Care and it’s importance for healing after birth. This conversation speaks to the necessity of a well supported postpartum and how that can be possible when you know what is needed to thrive after birth. And Hadhee Jah speaks so gracefully about the lost art of Midwifery in her home country of the Maldives.Listen to this story with an open heart as the Art of True Midwifery is being stolen from all women and stories like Hadhee Jah’s are so important to be shared.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: [email protected]Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your Host:FOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, HadheejahInstagram: @hadheejahbirthkeeper Website: https://hadheejahbirthkeeper.com

55. It’s Divinely Designed

This is a really special episode for me to have recorded. When I spoke with Haniyyah, she was the first woman that I had interview for this movement in 1 year! So my excitement was palpable and it felt like a beautiful homecoming. But I have to say that I was so honoured to share space with Haniyyah and hear her words. She speaks to me about how she is the youngest of 10 kids in a blended family and how she was very involved within the lives of her nieces and nephews are they started to become new additions to the family system. For her first birth, Haniyyah started in obstetric care, but shortly switched to Midwifery care and felt so much more supported by her choice. Haniyyah was the first of her family to birth her baby at home after many generations of women birthing in the hospital. After integrating her first birth and already having previous knowledge of birthing free of the system, Haniyyah started to have the feelings that birthing in this way would be what she wanted. Through reaching out to a few friends and finding resources to support her decision to birth her second free of the system, that is what Haniyya did.Listen to her words as she speaks to the journey of birthing her baby into the world in the way she knew she her body was designed to do.✦Give a 5 STAR RATING and REVEIW on Apple PodcastsGive a 5 STAR RATING on Spotify-FOLLOW Freebirthing in Color ™ on Instagram @Freebirthing_inColorReach out via email: [email protected]Send a DONATION to support the Movement-SUBMIT Your Birth StorySUBMIT Your Women’s Work-Connect with your HostFOLLOW Karma on Instagram @Primal_Woman_Check Out What's Happening in the Movement-✨New Stories Every Thursday!✨-Connect with our Guest, HaniyyahInstagram: @haniyyahlovessyou -ResourcesChantel Blake: @honoredwomb Listen to Chantel Birth Story: “Ep. 25 — I’m not going to Betray Myself Anymore”Birth E-book: @blossomingnadia
