    S6 E9: The Southend Werewolf

    11/05/2026 | 1 h 15 min
In this episode of That Would Be Rad, we sink our teeth into one of the weirdest and most unsettling true stories we’ve ever covered: the Southend Werewolf.
Picture this: a regular, easy-going guy from Essex named Bill Ramsey who spent almost forty years fighting something vicious that lived inside him. Out of nowhere he’d get hit with freezing cold chills, see a wolf staring back at him in the mirror, and then black out into these insane rages where he suddenly had crazy strength and acted like a straight-up animal. What began as a bizarre incident in his parents’ garden when he was just nine years old spiraled into full-blown tabloid madness and eventually pulled in Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Is it old-school folklore, straight-up demonic possession, a serious mental health thing, or some unholy mix of all three? This one really doesn’t fit in any neat little box.
What We Uncover in This Episode:
Bill Ramsey’s full story — starting with that insane 1952 garden episode as a kid where he ripped a fence post (concrete and all) out of the ground and chewed through wire with his teeth, all the way through the escalating nightmare of the 1980s
The notorious 1987 police station showdown in Southend where he fought a dozen cops on all fours, growling “The devil is in me…”
A proper deep dive into werewolf history, from the Epic of Gilgamesh and King Lycaon all the way to medieval monster trials, the Beast of Gévaudan, and modern clinical lycanthropy
How the Warrens got pulled into the case, the intense 1989 exorcism with Bishop Robert McKenna, and the wild physical changes people swore they saw
The big debate: demonic animal spirit, psychological condition, hysterical strength, or something else entirely
What happened to Bill after the exorcism, his appearance on Sightings, and why this case still feels impossible to pin down
    Why You NEED to Listen:
If you’re into episodes that feel like a proper paranormal thriller, this one’s for you. Between my recent werewolf kick (thanks to Joe Abercrombie’s The Devils, An American Werewolf in London, and Bad Moon), the edge-of-your-seat storytelling, and that lingering “what if this could actually happen to a normal person?” question - this might be one of our creepiest episodes yet.
Fair warning: you might find yourself side-eyeing your backyard and mirrors for a while after this one.

    S6 E8: 11+ U.S. Scientists Dead or Missing - Coincidence or Conspiracy?

    04/05/2026 | 1 h 26 min
Thanks to all the listeners who’ve been sending in tips and links on this one, this topic blew up fast!!
In this gripping episode of That Would Be Rad, we dive into one of the most disturbing patterns of 2025–2026: the growing wave of scientists (many tied to advanced propulsion, nuclear, aerospace, and fusion research) who have turned up dead or simply vanished.
From Huntsville, Alabama to Los Alamos, JPL, MIT, and Wright-Patterson, the body count and missing persons list keeps climbing. Official rulings range from suicide and accidents to solved homicides… but the sheer number of high-level experts in sensitive national security fields has even caught the attention of federal investigators.
Woody lays out the hard facts on each case, explores the strongest connections (especially the propulsion cluster), and then hands it over to Tyler for full rabbit-hole mode.
    Coincidence or conspiracy? You decide.
🔥 What We Uncover in This Episode:
The full list: 11+ scientists dead or missing, including Amy Eskridge, Monica Reza, Michael David Hicks, Nuno Loureiro, and the recent Moffatt family tragedy
Deep dives into their groundbreaking work in exotic propulsion, nuclear thermal rockets, rocket engine materials, plasma/fusion, microwave radiometry, and nuclear weapons components
The striking institutional overlaps: NASA/JPL, Wright-Patterson AFRL, Los Alamos, Kansas City National Security Campus, and more
Amy Eskridge’s chilling pre-death warnings and disputed circumstances
The strongest common thread and why it’s raising national security questions
Facts-first analysis vs. the wildest theories circulating online
Respectful look at the human side and the families left behind
🎧 Why You NEED to Listen:If you love stories where real-world events feel like they belong in a thriller, this one delivers. Woody stays grounded in the facts while Tyler connects the dots you won’t unsee. Whether you walk away skeptical or convinced something is very wrong, this episode will have you talking about it for weeks.

S6 E7: The Conquistador & The Devil in Texas - The Incredible TRUE Story of Cabeza de Vaca & The Mala Cosa

    27/04/2026 | 1 h 22 min
Thanks to Listener Matt Armstrong for sending in this absolute banger of a submission!
In this epic episode of That Would Be Rad, Woody takes you on one of the wildest journeys in early American history - the true survival odyssey of Spanish explorer Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca. Shipwrecks, slavery, starvation, cannibalism, miraculous healings… and then the story gets really weird.
Around 1534, the Native tribes of south-central Texas told the four ragged survivors about Mala Cosa - “The Bad Thing.” A small, bearded figure with unnatural power who performed grotesque surgery on living people, ripped out their entrails, healed the wounds instantly, lifted entire lodges into the air, shapeshifted genders, and claimed to live “down below.”
Is it the Devil? A cryptid? A rogue shaman? Or something even older?
We dive deep into the historical record from Cabeza de Vaca’s own book La Relación, explore similar creatures across Texas, the Southwest, Mexico, and around the world, and leave you wondering what the hell was really walking those plains 500 years ago.
🔥 What We Uncover in This Episode:
The doomed Narváez expedition... from 600 men to just 4 survivors
Eight years of naked survival, slavery, and becoming “Children of the Sun”
The full terrifying account of Mala Cosa straight from the source
Texas wild man legends, Skinwalkers, La Lechuza, Chupacabra, and more
Global parallels: Pishtaco, Manananggal, Tokoloshe, and beyond
Historical debates - demon, cryptid, shaman, or something else?
🎧 Why You NEED to Listen:If you love deep historical mysteries that turn into straight-up nightmare fuel, this is your episode. Buckle up... this one will stick with you.

    S6 E6: Critters at 40...They STILL BITE!

    20/04/2026 | 50 min
Forty years ago this month, a scrappy little creature feature crawled out of New Line Cinema and straight into cult status.
This week, we’re throwing it a proper 40th birthday party and no full plot recap, just the good stuff: the wild trivia you’ve forgotten (or never knew), the behind-the-scenes practical effects magic, how it held its own in one of the craziest movie years ever, and the gloriously unhinged ride the franchise took afterward.
From the Chiodo Brothers building fuzzy alien puppets on a shoestring budget… to Corey Burton inventing the Krites’ language on the spot… to Leonardo DiCaprio’s very first movie role getting terrorized by the little furballs… we’re digging into all the rad details that make Critters still feel alive in 2026.
We also talk about why these practical-effect monsters hit different in the CGI era, that perfect pre-internet small-town 80s vibe, and how a tiny $2–3 million underdog carved out its own weird little corner in a summer packed with blockbusters.
Whether you grew up renting this on VHS or you’re discovering the Krites for the first time — this one’s pure nostalgic chaos with a side of “wait till you hear this.”
If you’ve ever loved a goofy, scrappy 80s creature feature and wondered why it still holds up…This one’s for you.

S6 E5: Abducted… Then They Sent Him Back | The Carl Higdon UFO Case

    30/03/2026 | 1 h 43 min
What if someone went missing… and actually came back?
This week, we head into the mountains of Wyoming to look at a case that starts off simple - just a guy taking a day off to go elk hunting -and turns into something that doesn’t fit neatly into any explanation.
Because at some point during that hunt… something happens. Something that affects the environment around him. Something he can’t explain.
And something that, by all accounts, shouldn’t be possible.
What follows is one of the strangest encounters we’ve ever covered - filled with moments that feel grounded and real… right up until they don’t.
And then it just keeps going.
The deeper you get into this story, the harder it is to pin down what actually happened, and maybe more importantly… what almost happened.
Because this isn’t just a story about an encounter. It’s a story about what comes after.
What it’s like to come back from something you can’t explain.
What it does to your memory. Your sense of reality. Your understanding of what’s possible.
And whether or not you ever really leave it behind.
We also zoom out and look at how this case fits into a much bigger picture.
Other strange incidents in remote wilderness areas.
Stories that share similar details, even when they’re separated by decades.
And the uncomfortable possibility that this might not be as isolated as it seems.
    This episode is about:
A hunting trip that takes a turn into something unexplainable.A moment where the normal rules… stop applying. An encounter that feels just close enough to reality to be unsettling. And the question of what it really means to come back from something like this.
Because sometimes the strangest part of a story… isn’t what happens.
    It’s what almost happened.
If you’ve ever heard a case and thought, “there’s more to this than we’re being told…”
    This one’s for you.
    Stay curious.Stay weird.Be Forever Rad.
