In this Meet the Authors event of Volumen 10: Peace, we spoke with Dr. Radvilė Rimgailė-Voicik, a lithuanian botanist and scientist at Vilnius University's Life Sciences Center, that specializes in researching lycopods that evoke the ancient memories of the dinosaur era. She is the co-author of the multimedia story Lycophyte Futures. And our second guest is Santiago Eslava-Bejarano a PhD student in comparative literature at the University of Southern California (USC) that focus his research on the ways in which language and interspecies communication are represented and problematized in contemporary literature, arts, and philosophy. He is the author of the text Tending to the Pain of the Jungle.

We discussed various themes addressed by both stories, such as the process of listening to the territory, landscapes as living repositories of memories, the limitations involved in translating more-than-human forms of expression, and their own transformative creative processes.

In this Meet the Authors event of Volumen 10: Peace, Wimblu’s Team holds a conversation with the filmmaker Shaunak Sen, director of the film ‘All That Breathes’, which inspired the text ‘In Search of a Space to Breathe’ written by Fernando Chaves and featured on the creative documentary column of Wimblu Magazine. In this conversation we explore the ideas at the heart of his documentary: care as a response to the ecosocial crisis, the entanglement of political and ecological violence, and the quiet, radical act of tending to lives that the logic of progress deems expendable.

We talk about how his formal choices — slow, deliberate, carefully composed images — resist the urgency and fear that dominate mainstream environmental storytelling, and instead invite the viewer into something different: a cinema of attention. We also explore the story of Nadeem and Saud, the brothers at the center of the film, as "philosophers of the urban" whose shelter for injured black kites becomes a ritual of resistance and a search for a common peace. And we ask Shaunak how, as an inhabitant of New Delhi, he finds peace in a city where the air itself is in crisis — and whether non-human beings offer any guidance.

A conversation about documentary filmmaking, ecological grief, and the possibility of care as a transformative force.

En este episodio conversamos con la micóloga y ecóloga forestal Adriana Corrales. Adriana es científica principal de investigación de campo y directora del programa de exploradores subterráneos en SPUN (La Sociedad para la Protección de las Redes Subterráneas). Su investigación se centra en la ecología y taxonomía de los hongos micorrízicos —que son los hongos que viven en las raíces de las plantas— así como los cambios en la composición de sus comunidades asociadas a factores bióticos y abióticos.

Conversamos con Adriana sobre el recién reconocido reino Funga, sobre la importancia de mapear y comprender mejor a los hongos desde el conocimiento local y sobre cómo los hongos nos muestran que todo está interconectado, que todo está fluyendo y mutando todo el tiempo y que siempre hay horizontes inexplorados más allá de lo que conocemos.
