  • Biology and Bigotry with Ed Buckner
My guest this week is Ed Buckner, a secular organizer, former president of American Atheists. Ed is the author of the book In Freedom We Trust: An Atheist Guide to Religious Liberty, as well as the Substack blog Letters to a Free Country, where he recently posted a piece responding to my article “Biology is not Ethics” about the conflict around FFRF and Jerry Coyne's piece "Biology is not Bigotry". We discuss Ed's objections to my accusing Coyne of arguing for bigotry and discrimination, his refusal to use "they" as a singlar pronoun, and a variety of other topics related to trans-activism in secular spaces. What is a Woman?: https://freethoughtnow.org/what-is-a-woman/Biology is not Bigotry reposted unedited at CFI's Free Inquiry magazine: https://secularhumanism.org/exclusive/biology-is-not-bigotry/Biology is not Ethics: https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/biology-is-not-ethics-a-responseFirst Person In-Trans-itive Tense? • Trans Activism in Secular Spaces with Kat Grant
My guest this week is Kat Grant a Wisconsin based attorney, activist, legal educator, and author of the new blog TransingBoundaries, which focuses on the intersections of law, politics, religion, and queerness. Kat recently finished up an Equal Justice Works Fellowship at the Freedom From Religion Foundation, where they exclusively worked on the White Christian nationalist attack on LGBTQIA+ rights. Tragically and ironically, their fellowship was sort of capped off with a revealing debacle originating from an article they wrote for FFRF entitled “What is a woman?”. Along with discussing that debacle, we discuss their experiences working on trans issues in secular spaces more boadly and how their preference for restorative justice shapes their approach to social justice work. What is a Woman?: https://freethoughtnow.org/what-is-a-woman/I Am Not Interested in Making Bigots Comfortable: https://substack.com/home/post/p-153702335Biology is Not Ethics: https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/biology-is-not-ethics-a-responseMusic by GW RodriguezEditing by Adam WikSibling Pod:Philosophers in Space: https://0gphilosophy.libsyn.com/Support us at Patreon.com/EmbraceTheVoidIf you enjoy the show, please Like and Review us on your pod app, especially iTunes. • A Disease of Affluence with Toby Buckle
Back to our normal format with returning guest Toby Buckle of the Political Philosophy Podcast. We discuss his recent Liberal Currents article "A Disease of Affluence", where he argues that MAGA is a result of lack of precarity rather than economic anxiety, combined with the human need to feel superior or dominant over others. We also discuss social dominance theory and my recent article on men and the meaning making crisis.Political Philosophy Podcast: https://www.politicalphilosophypodcast.com/A Disease of Affluence: https://www.liberalcurrents.com/a-disease-of-affluence/The meaning crisis, and how we rescue young men from reactionary politics: https://www.skeptic.org.uk/2024/11/the-meaning-crisis-and-how-we-rescue-young-men-from-reactionary-politics/Music by GW RodriguezEditing by Adam WikSibling Pod:Philosophers in Space: https://0gphilosophy.libsyn.com/Support us at Patreon.com/EmbraceTheVoidIf you enjoy the show, please Like and Review us on your pod app, especially iTunes. • Luckpilled Chapter Four: Pedagogy of Luck
Episode five of our luckpilled series! We discuss the final chapter of my dissertation on pedagogy of luck. We work through the old pedagogy of luck and how it crashes the educational commons, before discussing how to do luckpilling generally and how to integrate it with three other progressive pedagogies: Mindfulness, social-emotional learning, and critical social justice pedagogy.Sarah's Bio: https://creatoraccountabilitynetwork.org/about/leadership/Music by GW RodriguezEditing by Adam WikSibling Pod:Philosophers in Space: https://0gphilosophy.libsyn.com/Support us at Patreon.com/EmbraceTheVoidIf you enjoy the show, please Like and Review us on your pod app, especially iTunes. • Luckpilled Chapter Three: Politics of Luck
Episode four of my luckpilling series, where I'm once again joined by Sarah Tulien, executive director of the Creator Accountability Network. We discuss chapter three of my dissertation, which covers the politics of luck, particularly the way that meritocracy dominates modern politics and suppresses social progress by making people appear to deserve their lot in life. I also present an outline of the lucktopian society I think we should be moving towards and an argument for why it is not illiberal indoctrination to teach students that everything is luck.Sarah's Bio: https://creatoraccountabilitynetwork.org/about/leadership/Music by GW RodriguezEditing by Adam WikSibling Pod:Philosophers in Space: https://0gphilosophy.libsyn.com/Support us at Patreon.com/EmbraceTheVoidIf you enjoy the show, please Like and Review us on your pod app, especially iTunes. Acerca de Embrace The Void

Welcome friends, to a podcast for a darker timeline. Maybe the darkest of all timelines. Definitely not one of the good timelines. Maybe it’s always been a dark timeline, maybe the Hadron collider screwed us over. Science may never know. What we do know is that we live in the void. The void, a place where a chittering mass of void crabs can infest a person suit and win the presidency. The void, a place where we're just clever enough to know that climate change is happening, but not quite clever enough to do anything about it. The void seems terrible and cruel, but it loves you, in its own ironic way.
