With this video we're trying a different format, and we'd really love to hear your feedback!
In this episode, the BTS team attempts to write an original movie pitch in 80 minutes. But we aren't starting from scratch—we get starting constraints chosen at random (directory, genre, etc.), and every twenty minutes "the studio" shows up and throws us a curveball.
The goal with this format is to demonstrate how writers can use the techniques we so often talk about on the podcast...while also having fun and going a little crazy.
We're thinking of this episode as a kind of pilot, and we'd love to hear your honest feedback about it. What worked? What could be more improved upon? And what crazy ideas for curveballs would you like to see in the future? - The team behind Lessons from the Screenplay breaks down the narrative of Prometheus to extract storytelling lessons and explore the kinds of tools writers can use to address various problems in their stories. In particular, we look at the motivation of the central characters, the themes the filmmakers seemed to be interested in examining, and the overall onslaught of themes, rules, creatures, and lore this movie attempts to fit into its two hour runtime.

For Inquiries and Booking: vincet.major@gmail.com - The team behind Lessons from the Screenplay breaks down the narrative of The Dark Knight Rises to extract storytelling lessons and explore the kinds of tools writers can use to address various problems in their stories. In particular, we look at the design of Bane's character, the complicated nature of Bane's plan, and the struggle of balancing so many supporting characters.
NOTE: We recorded this with the intention it just be for our YouTube channel, but we ended up not referring to the visuals much in the conversation. Hopefully everything makes sense in a strictly audio form.
