125. From Russia with Laughs with Comedian Anya Rzhevitskaya
This week my guest is Anya Rzhevitskaya, a Wellington based comedian who produces gigs with Drug of Choice productions. Anya offered to come on the pod and talk about growing up in Russia, a country that I think we all find fascinating due to how similar it is to the United States but also completely different. This was my chance to ask any questions I had about what it was like growing up there to someone who actually did it. We also talked about comedy, the arts, a bit of politics as well as what Russia's stance on the LGBT community is. I hope you enjoy it!Follow Anya Online:https://www.facebook.com/anyaistryinghttps://www.instagram.com/anya_is_trying/Follow Drug Of Choice:https://www.facebook.com/DrugofChoiceProductionshttps://www.instagram.com/Drug_of_choice_nzhttps://linktr.ee/drugofchoiceproductionsCheck out Anya's show Kick Up A FUS supporting workers rights within the sex work industry: https://www.facebook.com/events/1491932558436312--Increasingly uneasy about the American oligarchy's rapidly tightening grip on social media? 124. Local Politics (Again) with Ben Tito Caldwell
Ben "Tito" Caldwell is back for another guerrilla podcast while he dropped into Christchurch for a couple of gigs. Ben thought it would be a good idea to chat some more about local politics as in New Zealand the local elections are coming up soon and so we might help keep them in people's mind. We chatted about what it's been like working as a public servant as Ben has, what powers the local councillors do and don't have, and then we also talked a bit about the central politics as well as the development of cities with things such as cycle lanes. As said in the episode, Ben's opinions and statements do not reflect those of his employer. Me on the other hand yeah all that uninformed drivel that came tumbling out reflects the views of my employer (me).Follow Ben Onlinehttps://www.facebook.com/bentitocaldwellhttps://www.instagram.com/bentitocaldwell/https://www.facebook.com/diycomedynzhttps://www.instagram.com/diycomedynz/--Increasingly uneasy about the American oligarchy's rapidly tightening grip on social media? 123. The Invisible Hook & Kitchen Confidential - RMT Book Club!
This week I decided to sit down and yap about a couple of books that I have read this year, I'm trying to be more proactive at reading books instead of doom scrolling on the phone or playing video games, other stuff like that we use to space out. This time I talked about The Invisible Hook by Peter Leeson, a book about the economics of Pirates, and also Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain.--Increasingly uneasy about the American oligarchy's rapidly tightening grip on social media? 121. What I'm Grateful For & Lessons Learnt After 2 Years As A Freelance Entertainer
It's here! My reflections on what it's been like working as a freelance entertainer for the last 2 years. I broke this one down into things I'm grateful for and lessons learnt. And there were a lot more lessons learnt. Hope you enjoy it!What I'm Grateful For:I've paid all my bills for 2 years off the back of telling jokes and reading quiz questionsI've begun to get some response from the content I'm creatingI'm feeling more connected in my communitiesThe podcast has been a very good networking tool Second comedy special was received very well, nearly at 10k views.Lessons learnt:Success is not going to make you happyYou will be told "no" more times that you can count, get used to it.Therapy is worth the moneyIdle hands are the devil's playthingCrumbs make crumbcakeThe cavalry is not coming to save youYou can never predict what's going to happen, curve balls will constantly be coming your wayEven with a dream job, you're still going to have shitty daysWhen it's going well, it's never going as good as you think it is, and when it's going bad, it's never going as bad as you think it is."Bush was terrible for the world, but great for punk"--Increasingly uneasy about the American oligarchy's rapidly tightening grip on social media?
