• Liderazgo juvenil en las COP

  En este episodio, Shurabe Mercado, integrante de YOUNGO, la circunscripción oficial de juventud de la CMNUCC, y fundadora y directora ejecutiva de SEHALUZ, comparte valiosas reflexiones sobre la participación juvenil en las negociaciones climáticas. A partir de su experiencia en YOUNGO, explica la estructura del proceso de la COP y cómo la juventud puede influir en los resultados mediante intervenciones oficiales, diplomacia informal y coordinación estratégica. Subraya que las personas jóvenes no son observadoras pasivas: son organizadoras, negociadoras y lideresas o líderes que están dando forma a la política climática.Shurabe hace un llamado a una mayor inclusión de la juventud en las delegaciones nacionales, a contar con financiamiento accesible y a establecer marcos de rendición de cuentas que garanticen que su participación no sea solo simbólica. • Repensando la naturaleza como motor económico: desafíos y soluciones desde la OEA

  Este episodio recoge la intervención de Rubén Contreras, jefe de la Sección de Cambio Climático de la OEA, durante la reunión virtual “El poder de la naturaleza para impulsar el crecimiento económico y el desarrollo sostenible: implementando las Convenciones de Río”, celebrada el 5 de junio de 2025. En su comentario, Rubén Contreras destaca cómo la región depende del capital natural y advierte sobre el riesgo de seguir abordando los problemas ambientales desde una lógica puramente utilitaria. Propone un cambio hacia una gestión centrada en el bienestar de la naturaleza, considerando su calidad y capacidad regenerativa como base de la economía y la democracia. Asimismo, identifica las barreras que enfrentan los países más pequeños para acceder a los fondos climáticos internacionales y presenta la propuesta de la OEA de crear un hub regional para incubar proyectos bancables y acompañar a los gobiernos en su implementación. El Sr. Contreras también detalla iniciativas piloto en economía circular en zonas amazónicas y caribeñas, así como el desarrollo de biomateriales a partir de residuos como el sargazo para reducir la contaminación por plásticos.Finalmente, hace un llamado a las y los parlamentarios para legislar con base en evidencia científica, incorporar indicadores de bienestar en las políticas públicas y supervisar que las acciones y presupuestos nacionales sean coherentes con los compromisos internacionales.
